Summer Camp 2015 - Day 1

Summer Camp gets underway!

Troop 538 conducted their own flag raising ceremony at their campsite before heading down to the parade field for the opening camp flag ceremony.

A hearty breakfast of waffles and bacon readied the troop for the day ahead - Future reference note- these scouts LOVE bacon.  So bring lots of bacon for the next campout.

After breakfast, classes began with Trail to Eagle scouts learning about the patrol method and learning the techniques on whipping the end of a rope.

Lunchtime brought hot dogs, corn dogs, macaroni salad, chips.

After lunch, this year’s schedule allowed for troop/patrol meetings so the annual troop planning conference got underway.  The scouts selected backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and a multi-day kayaking trip for next year.

Just one period for afternoon classes followed by tutorial period and FREE TIME – where the swimming pool was a big hit in the afternoon.

Congratulations to Mr. Gilmore for completing the MILE swim at camp! And thank you for coming out and helping to provide adult leadership at camp this year.

Dinner was make your own soft shell tacos, seasoned rice and jello for dessert.

Evening activities were a blast with a game of capture the flag, with well over 60 scouts playing.  Unorganized chaos on the playing field.  Matthew and Alan both made gallant efforts to reach the flag - only to be tagged and send to the awaiting jail area.

Gabe defended Troop 538's title in Magic Tournament  and WON again!  James played to Gabe in the final game and came in second.  There was no 1, 2, 3 sweep like last year.  Once again, Troop 538 rules in the world of Magic.

The troop had their own campfire in camp, making s’mores and telling stories.   They were also successful in teaching Mr. Everson how to play the card game Candyman .

10:45pm brought a close to the day – beautiful sleeping weather – with NO RAIN!

Day 2 awaits.
